The Free Parking Bike is a mobile park service that reimagines the use of public space by carrying a complete park on a Xtracycle utility bike including; 4 Adirondack chairs, a pool, two coolers and a stereo system. We also install a roll of astroturf the exact size and width of the largest Ford F150 sold in the United States to demonstrate the massive amount of space used by one vehicle. Created by John D. Freyer an associate professor of Cross Disciplinary Media at VCU School of the Arts. His studio team includes VCU Alumni Oliver Mukherjee & Ella Floyd and current VCUarts Photo+Film BFA Student Miño Smith. The Free Parking Bike was launched at the 44th Annual Carytown Watermelon Festival and will be part of World Park(ing) Day September 20, 2024.
